The electricity grid in Konotop, Sumy Oblast, has remained offline for four consecutive days following Russian drone strikes on the night of October 23 and 24.
Artem Semenikhin, the mayor of Konotop, confirmed on October 27 that the city has no forecast for power restoration. Speaking to the public broadcaster Suspilne and posting on Telegram, he stated that the situation regarding the electricity supply remains uncertain. He noted that as of the night of October 26 and 27, the blackout persists without a scheduled end date.
The outage has disrupted essential municipal services. Semenikhin reported that most of the city has lost its gas supply. The local hospital is currently operating on backup generators, and educational facilities sustained damage. Water distribution is now restricted to two daily windows: 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Sumyoblenergo, the regional power distribution company, stated that emergency repair crews are working around the clock to address damage to energy facilities. The utility indicated that the completion timeline depends on the security situation and whether crews can safely access the damaged sites. Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack after 3:00 a.m. on October 24, targeting energy infrastructure, a school, and residential homes in the Konotop hromada.
A separate strike on an agricultural business in the district on the afternoon of October 24 killed a 31-year-old farm worker and injured four others. The administrative unit, known as a hromada, encompasses the town and its adjacent territories.
